I’m excited about our upcoming photo session. Please read this entire message as it has lots of helpful information regarding your session. Lets begin with...
STEP 1. CHOOSE YOUR LOCATION
Have you thought about where you want your pictures taken? Do you have a location that has been in the family for generations? Do you enjoy the outdoors? Do you have a location you and your friends like to spend time? Determining your location will help with Step 2. What to Wear.
Some outfits look better in certain areas, and not so much in others. From the downtown of a city to the beautiful fields, every style of clothes looks better in particular locations. With that in mind, be sure you’ve let me know where you want your senior pictures taken.
STEP 2. WHAT TO WEAR FOR SENIOR PICTURES
Senior picture outfits are something that many start planning in advance.
DIVERSIFY
I typically encourage 3 diverse outfits. 1. Casual 2. Semi- Formal 3. An outfit centered around your personality.
FIND THE BEST OUTFIT
A few colors to consider for your senior outfit ideas are neutral, muted, or specific vibrant colors. I usually prefer solid color senior outfits for pictures because they look more elevated and less distracting. Neutral tends to be more timeless. Black is effortless. White is classy. However, you should not overlook patterns altogether because they will POP! Variety is KEY!
You know what looks best with your hair and skin tones, so plan towards whatever makes you the most confident! Try it on, take a mirror selfie in it and study your photo. Whether your senior picture outfit has bright floral designs or subtle, neutral prints, remember your senior picture outfit should represent you.
Try to stick to colors and comfort that work with the season. Ex: If it is winter time stick to warm clothes so you stay comfortable.
If you have a hobby you are passionate about, why not make that uniform one of your outfit options! Capturing you being YOU is my goal, so put on your dance leotard or letterman jacket(any uniform you may have).
FINISHING TOUCHES...HAIR, SHOES, MAKEUP, ACCESSORIES, PROPS
Hair, makeup, and nails may seem like something minor at first. These decisions may still
require some planning and should not be left for the last day.
HAIR Sometimes seniors do not consider the weather when it comes to how they style their hair. When the weather is humid in the spring and summer, it would be best if you styled your hair as close to your natural hairstyle as possible. Consider an up-do or wear it down with or without hair accessories. Play around with different styles before the photo shoot so you are comfortable with how it looks.
SHOES We all have our preferences and styles of what we like to wear. With that in mind, every outfit has certain shoes that match it best. On the other hand, if you are wearing solid colors, it could be a fun pop in your pictures to wear shoes with a unique style or color pattern!
MAKEUP When it comes to makeup, remember, less is more, and your natural beauty is already there; the makeup is just enhancing that.
ACCESSORIES Is there an accessory that is your staple piece, or do you have an accessory that completes your outfit? Wear the hat, bring a scarf for your hair, bring sunglasses.
PROPS I definitely encourage you to bring any props that help illustrate your hobbies, (books, paintbrushes, fishing poles, etc.) personality, or even future plans. Let’s represent YOU!
STEP 3. FINAL FRIENDLY REMINDERS
-Please be courteous and arrive 5 minutes before your session starts. This will give us a few
minutes to go over your outfits.
-Please arrive in your outfit for your first location.
- Please be sure to iron clothes if needed. I would then hang them when transporting.
- Your shoes will likely be in the photos. Shine them before you arrive.
- We will be walking or may be getting your feet in water. Please bring water shoes/crocs.
- If you plan on wearing a dress, please wear shorts underneath. Mini skirts and shorts are okay but they will limit your poses.
- I do make a point to monitor weather. If questionable, I will be in contact the day of.
- At times you will be getting down on the ground and could get itchy.
- If the ground may be wet, please bring an extra change of clothes.
- Some locations do not have a place to change outfits and you may need to in your vehicle.
- If an emergency situation arises, please reach out ASAP. I’m an understanding mom myself.
- I’m not much of a fashionista but I’m great with matching outfits with scenery.
- If you have pets, bring bribe treats. I bring a fanny pack with goodies, however some are
particular with their treats.
- Relax! You don’t have to worry about posing. I’ll take care of that. Your job is to smile and
make memories.
- Bring a friend or family member to make you laugh if you are a bit nervous.
- If you know you would like a specific photo, please let me know. I have a plan for specific
shots but I also want to make sure you get the shots you would like as well. It’s going to be a
fun session and I know we’ll get some shots you’ll love.
